Rayman Legends is the latest installment in the Ubisoft series. Only one year after the fantastic Rayman Origins, the publisher is back and challenges us to find Rayman and his friends in a new adventure. No arms, but awesome fists The most muscular penguin in the world is back! Rayman may not have arms or legs, but it doesn't make him any less of an essential and charismatic hero. Living with his friends in the idyllic world of the Glade of Dreams, Rayman will have to roll up his sleeves again (so to speak!) to save the world from grave danger. Rayman Legends passes happily through a hundred levels, divided into different worlds with unique atmospheres (underwater, medieval, Mexican levels...). You have to jump into paintings hanging on the walls to reach these levels, just like in the classic Mario 64! It's clear that Ubisoft revised its copy since the excellent Rayman Origins to offer more content, with many special unlockable levels (incorporating the worlds of the previous part) and lots of special bonuses (scratch cards, small animals to collect). Rayman Legends fans will have hours and hours of play before unlocking everything, and those who aren't hardcore players can simply let themselves go and marvel at the game. Perfect gameplay and an explosive multiplayer mode Those who have never played an episode of the Rayman series should quickly be able to find their feet in Rayman Legends. Everything is designed so that the game platform is accessible to all, and it won't take more than a few minutes to understand the principle of the game. I wouldn't go as far as to suggest that Rayman Legends is an easy game: some levels are still very difficult, but you can always go on to the next one and come back later. The main innovation of Rayman Legends is the multiplayer mode. Now you can play up to 4 people on the same screen or online, taking advantage of the concept of "asymmetric gameplay": so different players do not necessarily have the same role. The first player can, for example, take control of the main character while the second controls the moving platforms, cuts ropes or tickles enemies (allowing you to play with a beginner who will have as much fun as the main player). And if you tire of the story mode, you can always launch yourself into the excellent mini-game "Kung Foot", in which you will pummel a poor football to score in your opponent's goal. Laughs guaranteed! Jaw-dropping graphics Rayman Origins was beautiful, but Rayman Legends is...legendary! The quality of the graphics is unheard of for a 2D game. The game engine created by the developer is able to import hand-drawn graphics, and gives Rayman Legends a unique feel. It gives you the impression of directing a cartoon: the character animations double up, and the attention to detail in the levels is simply amazing. The artistic direction picks up where it left off in the previous part and the originality increases with each new world.... And just wait until you see the bosses! When it comes to sound, we can only applaud the quality of work by the Rayman Legends developers. It's not a question here of plain old "accompaniment" music: the sound is perfectly in tune with the action, and changes depending on the player's progress in a level. The quality of the compositions (which oscillate between gentle and mindblowing) is remarkable, combining the epic spirit and clean humor of the series to perfection. Note the presence of some musical levels that may leave you simply blissed out, especially if you play with friends! The best platform game on PC...until the next Rayman? There's no such thing as perfection, yet it is difficult to find any real defects in Rayman Legends. The game is perfect in terms of playability, you get more lives than usual and it has an amazing multiplayer mode. The music and graphics are one of a kind, and the humorous feel of the series makes us look forward to every moment. There is one bum note, however, that's worth noting: despite the new features, Rayman Legends' gameplay is very close to that of its predecessor, and it does sometimes seem like you're playing Rayman Origins 1.5. We don't mind forgiving Ubisoft this small blip, because of the excellence of the game, but we sincerely hope that the series won't start to launch an Assassin's Creed-style new episode every year. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

There's only a week left until Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull hits cinemas worldwide, a moment all true Indy fans like me have been desperately waiting for. If you're also among them, let me show you a trick to relieve your Indiana Jones anxiety: play the videogame! LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures is an original mix-up of the three previous Indy movies (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), turned into a fun 3D platform adventure with some mind-twisting puzzles and a very unusual element: it's all made of Lego blocks. This means that all characters, enemies and objects you'll find along the game are Lego style, which sometimes makes the game simply hilarious. You can for example build necessary elements - such a bridge to cross over a gap - out of a bunch of Lego pieces. Also, when you kill enemies or destroy objects with your whip, they're all torn down to Lego blocks. Backgrounds are the only thing in the game that don't follow the Lego style and have been created in a 3D style instead. Despite being made of Lego, Indy is quick and agile. You can jump from one platform to another, fly over deep cliffs with your whip and avoid all sorts of obstacles quite easily. What's more, the game lets you carry two simultaneous characters (Indy and his friend) and change between them at any time, depending on what you need to do (remember: Indy doesn't have a shovel, but his friend does!). Be aware though that the game is not just about jumping platforms and using your whip like Tarzan's vines. You'll have to solve various riddles and puzzles in order to gain access to certain areas during your adventures. The game's also quite easy to control, even if you're not very skillful with platforms, though I missed having a bit more control over the camera. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures is an hilarious 3D platform game which will let any Indy fan relive the most famous movie scenes featuring their favorite archaeologist.

Ice Age 3

In the Ice Age 3 demo, enter the world of your favorite prehistoric characters as they come face to face with the dinosaurs. The demo features three game modes. In Buck to the Rescue, you have to navigate your way through caves and up cliffs using your whip to help, and slide down vine and dinosaur routes avoiding falls and spikes. Egg Roll has you playing Sid, who has to protect an egg by rolling it carefully around the icy world. In Run Sid Run, control Sid as he runs towards the camera, with a T-Rex chasing him down. Kids will no doubt love playing Ice Age 3. It's well presented, has lots of character voices, and it relatively easy to control. None of the levels in the demo are too challenging, but should provide some replay value to younger children. In this demo the levels end abruptly - you're only given a taste of each. But the Run Sid Run level is visually impressive, with the screen shaking as the T-Rex roars, and the vine-riding section or Buck to the rescue is also really fun. As a demo it's nicely varied, and shows promise for the full game, which looks like being great fun for fans of Ice Age 3.

Sonic Generations brings Sega's iconic hedgehog to your PC, in a platform game that shows the best of his 2D and 3D gameplay from the last two decades. From the very beginning, speed was what defined Sonic against Nintendo's Mario, and Sonic Generations has a ton of that. Whether in 2 or 3D, Sonic Generations is really fast - but to get the best experience, you have to learn the levels. Inexperienced players will find the adrenalin rush interrupted by enemies and obstacles - learning through failure is how Sonic Generations works. If you find repeating levels irritating, Sonic is simply not for you! Sonic Generations looks fantastic throughout. the presentation is great, and the animation and environments have never been better. This is one of the best Sonic games for many years, and avoids most of the pitfalls of some of his worst games! Fans will love it, and there is hardly a better introduction to the high speed platform thrills of a Sonic game. Try out the free demo from Steam, which gives you a 'classic' 2D level and and excellent over the top 3D level to play through. Both need practice to perfect, so it's well worth downloading.

Limbo

Limbo is a 2D platform puzzle game, originally released on Xbox Live. Now you can play it on your PC via Steam. In Limbo, you control a boy on a journey through a strange and frightening world full of monsters and mechanisms that are out to get him. It's presented in stark monochrome, but the graphics are far from basic. Animation in Limbo is fantastic, and the dust and liquid effects really add a lot of atmosphere and depth. There is a flicker in the lighting that gives the game a dusty, old feeling. The sound is also excellent, helping to create one of the eeriest games around. Each level of Limbo features a series of puzzles and obstacles that require a mixture of thought and sometimes precision timing. It can be punishing, but the chilly atmosphere justifies the difficulty. This is a horror platformer, and it's not supposed to be nice! Limbo has moments that are pretty scary, and while it's not gory, it can be gruesome. The journey in Limbo with your silent protagonist is full of memorable moments, and played in the dark it's a fantastic experience. Limbo isn't a very long game, but it is excellent from start to finish and there are few gaming experiences that are as involving.

Icy Tower looks like a game that could have been made ten years ago, and even then, wouldn’t have looked particularly impressive. The game play consists of the single-minded pursuit of reaching the top of the tower in which our homeboy finds himself by jumping onto the ledges throughout. You can now play Icy Tower 2 free, for iOS devices! At a time when every computer game released seems to add more levels of detail and complexity to the world of gaming, it’s good to see that some developers make the effort to bring out titles like Icy Tower, designed for a bit of mindless enjoyment. It might not sound like much and frankly, it’s not. The only controls you need to play Icy Tower are left, right and jump. What makes this game fun is the speed of play, wacky sound effects and messed-up way that you can jump three stories at once if you happen to get the perfect run up! There are also a variety of Icy Tower characters that you can choose, download or even create yourself! You gather points by beating the clock to the top of each Icy Tower level and by building jump combinations. The result is a quick, enjoyable game that you could load anytime and play for a minute or half-an-hour.

Super Mario World Deluxe

If you were a big fan of the SNES version of Super Mario then Super Mario World Deluxe is a delightful remake. Along with Super Mario 3: Mario Forever, it's considered by fans to be one of the best Super Mario remakes around. The slight difference is that they makers of Super Mario World Deluxe haven't just cloned the Mario character - they've given this one a personality all of his own. Super Mario World Deluxe follows the same type of gameplay and adventures as the original Super Mario series although it's clearly not as polished as the original and looks and plays a bit amateur in places. In addition, unlike Super Mario 3: Mario Forever, the controls are more like the original, so it's easier to get used to. However, Super Mario World Deluxe's nowhere near as complete as the former or original. For example, there are only 5 levels to choose from (compared to 50 in Super Mario 3: Mario Forever) and the graphics aren't quite as faithful to the original. Super Mario World Deluxe is still a great remake of the classic Super Mario series on the SNES.

Happy Wheels is an arcade game game with a dark humorous twist. In the spirit of games like QWOP, you control the character you're playing with various keys on your keyboard. These are fully customizable if you want to change them in your preferences. The object of Happy Wheels is to get your character through each level as quickly as possible while completing a variety of prompted tasks. There are a variety of different levels in Happy Wheels where you can do anything from drive a race car to putter around on a segway. Controls are relatively easy, although it does take a few tries to figure out how to make your player move in the exact way you want him to. Every time you hit an obstacle in Happy Wheels, you'll be prompted with text to perform certain keyboard functions in order to move on. Happy Wheels can be a bit gory, in a cartoon kind of way. For example, in one level when your character is transported back to prehistoric times, a non-playable character gets eaten by a dinosaur, at least partially. His limbs are left behind in a spray of pixellated blood you have to drive your segway through. It's nothing too graphic, but Happy Wheels might not be appropriate for younger children as a result. The game also sometimes freezes up, making your character's movements stick occasionally. Happy Wheels is an utterly random (and a little bit gory) browser game that will provide considerable amusement.

Terraria is a 2D platform game that tries to take the spirit of Minecraft and apply it to platform gaming - and does a pretty good job of it too. Like Minecraft, in Terraria you can do pretty much anything you want to do with your tools and imagination. From digging deep underground and finding accessories and money to fighting-off a variety of enemies in numerous "biomes" and gathering wood, stone, ores and other resources, Terraria has an amazing level of depth that Minecraft fans will instantly recognize. As in Minecraft, your basic aim in Terraria is to create your own world and defend it. You can build a house, a fort, a castle - pretty much anything you want with a little imagination. If you're lucky, people will move in to live in your world and trade with you to help expand your empire. Of course, like Minecraft, graphics are not the strength of Terraria but it's the sheer amount of possibilities and imagination that goes into the game that makes it so enthralling. If you loved Minecraft, then you should definitely try Terraria.
