FIFA 14 for Windows 8

download here

FIFA 14 finally arrives free for Windows 8. EA puts the strongest emphasis on Ultimate Team, whereas some of the other game modes are only available through in-app purchases. FIFA 14 has a great game interface and new touch controls. This release for Windows 8 is a ported release for smartphones, ideal for touch devices, and differs much in terms of features and technical quality compared to the desktop version of FIFA 14. Ultimate Team and in-app purchases FIFA 14 allows you to play matches in Ultimate Team, Games of the Week, Support Your Club, Penalty Shootout, and Online modes. The modes let you challenge other players all over the world through its multiplayer function. Try to beat them and climb the worldwide leaderboard! Manager, Tournament and Kick Off modes, however, are only unlockable via in-app purchases. Just like in the PC and console versions FIFA 14 for iPhone also brings back Match of the Day, a function that lets you reflect on the events of real life games from every single team. You can see injuries, if players are on form, or changes to tactics; these are reflected in the game from time to time with corresponding updates to the team lineup. FIFA 14 for Windows 8 is strongly in favor of Ultimate Team mode, which lets you create and manage your virtual team. You can participate in auctions to buy and sell players, trying to grow your team and the camaraderie between your players. And of course, you can participate in games and competitions with your Ultimate Team. If you win, you get points and virtual money to spend so that you can buy new cards to improve your team. FIFA 14 supports 33 leagues (Serie A, La Liga, Premier League, Bundesliga...), more than 600 fully-licensed teams, over 16,000 players and as many as 34 stadiums, faithfully recreated in the app. And just as you can on the console version, you can get get trophies and achievements when you fulfill certain objectives. The game interface follows the same style and design of the desktop version of the game, offering excellent usability and navigability through the menus. New touch controls FIFA 14 also introduces a new type of touch control, based on gestures, swiping and tapping. The idea is interesting, but it does requires a bit of practice to feel confident with the controls. To this end, the game includes an in-depth tutorial that explains how to use the new controls. If you're not interested in using the touch controls, you can control the game with the same methods using your mouse. If you prefer the old and classic virtual joypad, you can still select it from the options menu. During our test, we got a better feeling with this set of controls rather than with the new gesture-based ones. Slightly better graphics, excellent soundtrack The 3D graphics are good, but not excellent. The engine is definitely less powerful than the one used in the classic version of FIFA 14. Animations and movements of the players are a bit slow, but the gameplay doesn't suffer exceedingly. Greater fluidity and speed in the pace of the action, however, would improve the title. " The music on the menu is excellent, but it isn't new: EA has always looked after the entire soundtrack of the FIFA franchise. The sound effects during the match are pretty average and not much different than the previous release. The presence of the commentary (in English, Italian, Spanish, German and French), however, makes the game more exciting. FIFA is free, at last! FIFA 14 for Windows 8 is an innovative release of the EA game. The freemium approach lets you play a free alternative to a release of the famous football simulator, and with other modes offered as in-app purchases (Manager, Tournament, and Kick Off), you'll be able to increase the depth of the game. Those available by default, however, still allow a fair amount of challenge, particularly the excellent Ultimate Team, and the online multiplayer mode. The tutorials are carefully thought out and available for any game mode. The new touch controls (or via the mouse) are a big gamble for EA, and have a significant impact on the gameplay . Personally, I still prefer the playing with a virtual joypad, which I still think is the best way to enjoy rewarding gameplay– but this is just a matter of taste. This release, as mentioned, is a mere porting of the version released on Android, iPhone and Windows Phone. It doesn't add any more features, which would have been welcome considering the greater power of a PC or tablet with Windows 8. Despite some gaps in the sound effects, some animations, and an unconvincing pace that's sometimes slow, this release of FIFA 14 for touch devices is quite good and, best of all, is free . Ultimately, the Metro version / Modern FIFA 14 is ideal for anyone who uses an underpowered PC, or for those who want to have a first approach with the EA simulator. If you're a hardcore gamer, you'll want to go straight to the most advanced and complete desktop version of the EA simulator.

NBA 2K14

download here

Every year, when the NBA season starts, all basketball fans get to see the new edition of NBA 2K14, the best basketball simulator. The 2014 edition features LeBron James, who has an entire game mode devoted to him, and celebrates the long awaited arrival of Euroleague teams. But do these new additions make NBA 2K14 the best basketball game ever? LeBron James, this year's star Each NBA 2K has its own featured player, and this time, it’s LeBron James. The Miami Heat star is present throughout the game, from the cover to the video intro and music that's handpicked by the basketball star. It's in the LeBron: Path to Greatness mode where you’ll guide his career. In a similar way to the NBA 2K11's mode was devoted to Michael Jordan, 2K14 gives you the opportunity to guide LeBron James’ career. The difference is that you won’t experience the earlier stages of LeBron’s career, as we did with Jordan, but you’ll be with him during his most recent victories. NBA 2K14 lets you choose between two scenarios. In the first, LeBron will stay with the Miami Heat to reach the peak of his career or in the second, he’ll join another team. In both cases, many challenges are waiting for you, with LeBron who can brag about statistics that reach almost 99%. Unfortunately, this mode is no more than a succession of games with a script too linear to be convincing. It would’ve been much better if you could choose LeBron’s team, but you can’t. Another important innovation of NBA 2K14 is the arrival of the 14 Euroleague teams. Will you be able to forget about LeBron while you take part in exhibition games with FC Barcelona, CSKA Moscow, Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, and other big European teams? In this case, you have to follow the rules of the European league so, in particular, the defensive three second rule of the NBA disappears. What we don’t like is that you have to settle for playing only quick games, in the absence of a game mode devoted entirely to the Euroleague teams. Last, we shouldn’t forget that these two new options are only an addition to a game that was already solid. NBA 2K14 still comes with all the classic modes of the franchise: My Player, My Career, online mode, and training. These modes haven’t evolved, but they are the ones that have made this game become the number one NBA game we all know. On the other hand, My Team mode is back. With this mode, you can take part in online tournaments with your friends and the player you created in My Player mode. Excellent game sensation NBA 2K14 comes with several gameplay improvements. You’ll notice the most important one if you are using a controller to play, as it involves using of the right analog stick (Pro Stick), that will let you do just about anything with the ball: show-stopping moves or intricate shots. These changes try to make the game accessible to new players by offering more intuitive controls. However, you must be careful not to hold the analog stick for too long when you want to make a fake shot because you run the risk of shooting by mistake. If you use it together with the left trigger, the control lever allows you to make no-look passes to your teammates. Users can take advantage of additional movements either to block or pass the ball (between the legs, behind the back, bounce pass). The blocking system has been perfected and we like it, as it lets you intercept the ball and block (chase-down blocks). There are no more ghost arms blocking the ball! The artificial intelligence has also been perfected, so it’s much harder to break the defense. It's more robust and better positioned around the free throw area, so it will be more difficult to overcome. From now on, mediocre players can’t just aim for the basket, but must find space and the right combinations to throw the ball or to overcome blockers. With a press of a button you can get tactical help, and it will display a gray circle in the position on the court where the player with the ball, or one of his teammates, should be to have a higher chance of scoring. Overall, the game sensation of NBA 2K14 is great with a wide range of strategy and controls. Like watching it on TV Presentation has always been one of the core strengths of NBA 2K series. Every year, Visual Concepts do its best to offer an experience that is similar to watching an NBA game on TV. The introduction scenes, the audience cheering, and commentators with 3,000 new animations help create a great atmosphere both on the court and on the other side of the screen. New animations show players’ reactions in more detail: their excitement after a great shot or frustration on the bench after a bad pass. Those who like watching the NBA games may even recognize the movements and the attitudes of certain players, thanks to Signature Moves. In addition, NBA 2K14 has fixed several bugs, especially for blocks and rebounds (before the ball passed through arms). Now everything works and players react in a more realistic way to each situation. As for the soundtrack, LeBron handpicked the playlist. Kanye West, Nas, Daft Punk, Gorillaz, and many more will join you in the game, along with the voices of the commentators Steve Kerr, Kevin Harlan, and Clark Kellogg. As always, NBA 2K14 is only in English. For now, the best basketball game NBA 2K14 isn't a huge step forward, but it has always had solid content and provides a sense of unparalleled gaming. New animations offer greater realism and we're happy to see the arrival of Euroleague teams, despite the absence of a dedicated game mode. But is NBA 2K14 truly the best basketball game? Yes, and it’s easy to see why, since it’s the only good game available after the NBA Live series stopped. However, EA Sports could decide to launch a PC version of this game, which is coming back for PS4 and Xbox One after so many years. The golden age of NBA 2K14 could end soon!

FIFA Online 2

download here

FIFA Online 2 is a free web-based version of the popular soccer simulator. The game allows you to play matches against computer AI or take on real life players over the internet. It's not as fully fledged as the latest full incarnation, FIFA 12, and graphically FIFA Online 2 is more similar to FIFA 07. Not that we're complaining though, because being able to play FIFA for free online is great. Even if the graphics are slightly outdated, the officially licensed player and team database in FIFA Online 2 is pretty up-to-date (currently with 2010/11 season data). FIFA Online 2 gives you the ability to play in almost all of the top leagues around the world, as well as playing in practice matches and in online play. Just look the full FIFA game, FIFA Online 2 is packed with options for the serious soccer fan. You can tinker with formations and strategies, plunge into the transfer market, and view stats on thousands of players, so there's plenty of depth here. FIFA Online 2 allows you to buy add-ons in-game that expand the game or help you in some way. For example, you can purchase an energy drink to help players recover from injury quicker, or a tool that reconfigures player attributes. If you're looking for a free alternative to FIFA 12, then you'll find an enjoyable, in-depth alternative in the shape of FIFA Online 2.

Cricket 2005

download here

Cricket 2005 is the demo of EA's full-length cricket game for Windows PCs. If you're a huge fan of EA's other sports offerings, like FIFA and NHL, Cricket 2005 is another solid athletic offering. It's even got a great international aspect to it that any cricket lover is sure to appreciate. Cricket 2005 offers you the option to compile and play on international teams, as well as bonus squads. In addition, this version lets you play domestic teams against one another. Users can now compete in England, India, New Zealand and South Africa. The gameplay in Cricket 2005 centers around a presentation that looks like you're watching a televised broadcast of the game. This comes complete with a full action replay mode, as well as a third umpire, overlays in a TV-style format and a field position editor that lets users choose between auto or manual fielding. The full version also boasts more than 35 different stadium layouts, based on real stadiums in Melbourne, Auckland, Cape Town and various English cities. Unfortunately, since Cricket 2005 is about six years old, the graphics aren't the most impressive, especially compared to other EA titles. If you're in it for solid cricket and excellent gameplay, however, it likely won't disappoint. Cricket 2005's graphics may be a bit out of date, but this demo is still a fun experience for diehard cricket fans.

FIFA 09

download here

It's incredible to think it's been 15 years since the FIFA sports game dynasty began. FIFA 09 is a far cry from the blocky graphics and rigid gameplay of the original, 16-bit version. But, of course, the question is, how much better is this one than FIFA 08? The answer, in short is: a little. The graphics in FIFA 09 have been refined, with more photo-realistic captures of the superstars of soccer, and some great new animations both on and off the ball. The presentation of the game is as exquisite as ever, with new match intro sequences featuring the players warming up in the tunnel, crowd chants specific to each club, not to mention the cool new 'widgets' system on the menu pages, where various online and offline stats are displayed at all times. Unfortunately, it was impossible to test the commentary in FIFA 09, as it's not included in this demo version. In terms of its gameplay, FIFA 09 offers a smooth ride, although there are few changes to the way the game handles other than a few new tricks and the addition of more realistic collisions. I could've done without these clashes, as sometimes it takes your player a long time to get up after a heavy hit. In fact, one of the new gameplay enhancements in FIFA 09 is the physical presence of some players, which means large defenders are more likely to bundle you off the ball, requiring more cunning to get past them. While this demo of FIFA 09 is limited to four-minute demo matches between a choice of six clubs, the full release looks set to really raise the bar in terms of its online modes. I'm particularly excited by the new Adidas Live Season mode in FIFA 09, where player information is updated dynamically depending on performances in real life. FIFA 09 is undoubtedly a great soccer simulator, although unless you're particularly interested in the online aspect of the game, you may not see a great deal of benefit in upgrading from FIFA 08 (other than, of course, the updated transfers). Whether it'll prove better than Pro Evolution 2009 is a matter of extensive debate, but FIFA 09 is definitely the best version in the EA series to date.
